Last weekend was truly a busy learning session for me. What did I learned? Well, the best thing in the world cooking delicious food! Together with blogger kakis we’re pair off in teams for a friendly cook-off challenge using the best of New Zealand products and produce led by Executive Chef Krishnan at Berjaya University College.
Our cooking challenge was held in conjunction with Taste New Zealand Food Fair happening in 7 AEON outlets nationwide from 30 November to 10 December. More details of the fair will be reveal later in the blog. Now, let’s get back to the cooking station!
Before we began our little cook-off session, Executive Chef Krishnan demonstrated three recipes using New Zealand mussels and Greenlea beef. He also shared tips and tricks with us on how to slice the produce evenly and safely. As we’re newbies in the culinary field, we’re only replicating two of the dishes.
My team decided to recreate Stir Fried Beef with capsicum and Grill Baked Cheesy Mussels. For Stir Fried Beef, we’re using imported beef from New Zealand. The recipe is easy peasy. Just marinate the beef with salt, sauted sliced onion and capsicum till fragrant. Following suit, pour in brown sauce together with all the ingredients and quickly stir fry it.
Next, is preparing Grill Baked Cheesy Mussels. The New Zealand mussels are half cooked and vacuum packed thus retaining its juiciness and plumpness. Just saute garlic, add grated cheese on top of the mussels and bake for 5 minutes. In just 30 minutes, the dishes are done. My partner in crime Rane Chin and I seldom cook but don’t’ you think our dishes look yummy?
The judges had a hard time deciding on the winning team but a big CONGRATULATIONS to Ayu & Nannie for winning it!
