My first trip to Kidzania was with my niece and son and at that time I envied them for being able to role- play whilst we adults act as guardians. KidZania Kuala Lumpur, the award-winning indoor family edutainment centre offering interactive learning and role-play experiences to children has decided to open its doors to the adults to experience more than 60 establishments and 100 job related role-plays around the City of KidZania.
I was elated to be invited by a friend to attend the preview and enjoyed myself indulging in multi role-playing jobs and scenes. Our journey started by getting ‘tagged’ on our wrist and given a cheque for 50 KidZos , a currency of KidZania. This cheque can be exchanged for 50 KidZos money at the CIMB bank and can be used in any establishment we entered.
Walking around the city, there were so many jobs available and frankly speaking it’s kind of overwhelming to decide which post we should go for first. You can opt to be a pilot, radio announcer, magician, actor, police, banker, CSI and lots more. My first ‘job’ was with blogger friends Elana, Mierah and Ella and we decided to try the courthouse. Ella elected herself as the judge, Elana became the attorney, Mierah as the prosecutor, while I’m the registrar for the day. We had to read from our que cards and do a fake trial. At the end of it, we got paid 10 KidZos for doing our job.
Next, was joining the firefighter’s crew and this time we had Jane and her niece with us too. Donning our uniforms (which is a size too small) we head to the firetruck and speed away to the fire location. During the ride, we had to shout at the top of our lungs the slogan ‘We’re Brave, We’re Strong’. Our task was to put out the fire at the hotel with real water supervised by our captain. A job well done and we got paid.
What’s next? We all have the dream to be a pilot, so we headed off to the cockpit. Now, this is an area where parents can’t even sneak or peek in. So, we had our filled pretending to be pilots in the cockpit and doing proper landings. I’ve got to salute the staff as they were very patient with us and allowed us to take selfie photos the entire time. As this was a job post, we got paid too.
By then, we were quite famished and decided to take a quick refreshment break. After that, we head on to 8TV together with Tommy and we were sent out on to do field reporting at 3 main areas, the Magic Shop, the Theatre and the BP Petrol Station. In each location, we all took turns being the camera man, the reporter and the cue card holder. Upon, returning to the studio, we quickly took a group photo on the set.
Time passes rather quickly when you’re enjoying yourself immensely and before we knew it, the event came to an end. We had so much fun playing and earning KidZos at every job we tried. The KidZos we earned can either be bank into CIMB for an ATM card that only works inside KidZania or opt to spend the money at the beauty salon, chocolate factory, jewellery shop and lots more.
One tip to share – plan your time carefully as each ‘session’ in KidZania takes about 20 minutes to complete.
