Bangsar is the ultimate place to hang out and chill from day to night with the numerous café, restaurants, mamak and shopping malls located nearby. Heading there, you’ll probably be thinking about food and where should you go. If you’re there, head over and try out Smirk Café. It’s newly opened in Bangsar and they dishes Asian Flavours. (Think along the lines of North Indian dishes)
Smirk Café is the only café in town which has an open kitchen concept where you can watched the chef preparing your meals. Not only that, they’ve also got a funky colourful room which can hold about maximum 8 pax for private gatherings. Interior décor is comfy and classic, I especially loved the wooden timber tables which is absolutely perfect for photo taking opportunities with food 😛
Before our food arrived, we quench our thirst with some drinks such as Iced Mocha, Flat White and Latte. Smirk Café uses roasted beans from Indonesia and the coffee taste is slightly stronger.
Appetizers are served and we had Prawn Cocktail and Mushroom Brushetta.
Fresh Tiger Prawns served with mayonnaise hot sauce, lemon, red coral, cherry tomatoes and baby romaine lettuce. As for Mushroom Bruschetta is made from 4 types of sliced mushroom (button, oyster, shimeji, shiitake) and is served in creamy sauce serve with a slice of dour dough toast. Absolutely loved this, voted a ‘Must Try’!
Next, we had 2 bowls of soup served which are Leek Potato soup and Mushroom soup. Leek Potato Soup is a blend of fresh leek and fresh russet potato garnished with truffle oil and garlic bread, while Mushroom Soup is a blend of 4 types mushroom and garnished with truffle oil and garlic bread. Both tasted pretty good but I vouch for the mushroom soup for its creamy consistency and also because I loved mushrooms 😀
For something light, try Smirk Café Traditional Caesar Salad. Fresh greens made from romaine lettuce, anchovies, crouton and hard boiled eggs. Dressed with homemade Caesar sauce served with grilled chicken is perfect for the health conscious folks. You can also opt for either beef or prawn.
Smirk Café also served a variety of sandwiches and we tried three of their signature ones.
Grilled North Indian chicken breast wrap is tortilla whole meal bread stuffed with marinated grilled chicken breast, tomatoes and cucumbers. Loved the minty yogurt sauce and tender breast meat.
Grilled Asian Flavour Chicken Leg Wrap is also tortilla whole meal bread but stuffed with marinated grilled chicken chop slices, red coral, tomatoes, pineapples and cucumber. It’s garnished with a healthy dose of mayonnaise and the fruits is a nice touch to zest up the sandwich.
Lastly, is the Braised Beef Tenderloin Sandwich. A baguette stuffed with flavoured succulent tenderloin beef, green coral, cucumbers and tomatoes. Well-seasoned and marinated, this is one of my favourite for it carries a hint of paprika spices. All the sandwiches are served together with French Fries on the side. Just do take note, the meat must be eaten together with the sandwich otherwise the taste can be a tad too salty.
Finishing our sandwiches, we were served with pastas. You can opt to go for either spaghetti, tagliatelle, penne or fusilli. Let’s take a look:
Slipper Lobster with sundried tomato is definitely my favourite and absolutely ‘Must Try’! Saute slipper lobster with shallot, chili flakes, sun dried tomatoes sauce is simply too irresistible.
Pistachio Breaded Chicken Breast is deep fried chicken breast wrapped with bread crumbs served with green pesto pistachio sauce with pasta.
Another favourite pasta would be the Grilled chicken with spicy tomato sauce. Truly an Asian dish, the grilled chicken chop is served with spicy tomato sauce based and pasta. A tinge of spiciness elevated and rock this dish for that it’s a ‘Must Try’!
By now, we’re half full but there’s still main course to try. There are only 4 main course available at the moment and we ordered all of it. Here’s a peek:
Fish and Chips – Deep Fried Dory Fish served with lemon wedges & Tar Tar sauce on the side with French Fries
Braised beef Rib – Braised flavoured beef rib with trio beans served in tomato flavoured sauce with mesclun. The beef was juicy however I would prefer if the meat just fall apart on its own.
Grilled Red Snapper Fish – Seasoned grilled red snapper with trio beans & mesclun. Served in Asian Tomato flavoured sauce and a combination of 2 sauces tasted amazing. The fish is perfectly grilled and the tomato sauce was to –die-for, absolutely ‘Must Try’!
Grilled Spring Chicken – Boneless Spring chickens served with potato wedges and mesclun on the side. It’s a tad too dry for me.
To end our binging session, we had desserts. We ordered the signature Dark Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse and Dark Chocolate Espresso Mousse. Both desserts is a whooping scoop of mousse garnished with raspberry puree and fresh berries. I’m not a mousse lover but this was really tantalizing and both are highly recommended.
The dishes has room for improvements however being newly opened its not too bad. Smirk Café food portion are pretty sizeable and the price is extremely affordable. In Bangsar area, I highly doubt you’ll be able to find a café that provides quality café food ranging from RM12 onwards!. So, hop over and give it a try for yourself!
