A much look forward to affair is the gathering of families to bond on the eve of Chinese New Year. Thus, I’m sure by now everyone is busy looking for the perfect restaurant to hold this happy occasion. I was lucky to be invited to review Chinese New Year delights at Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur last weekend. In conjunction with the Year Of the Rooster Executive Chinese Chef, Ho Boon have created specially-crafted menus and mouth-watering dishes fit for an emperor.
Walking into Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur; one can’t help but to be impress with its elegant and refine setting.
Today, we will be reviewing some of the dishes from a combination of the 4 exclusive prosperity 9-course set menus titled Abundance (财源广进套餐), Fortune (发财好事套餐), Auspicious (恭贺新禧套餐) and Luxurious (一本万利套餐). Let’s kick start our yummylicious journey 😀
YEE SANG WITH NORWEGIAN SALMON FISH WITH ASSORTED PICKLED VEGETABLE & SHREDDED FRESH FRUIT PLUM SAUCE
Loved how the chef has decor the Yee Sang in the shape of a colourful Rooster . The fruity and tangy taste derived from the pickled vegetables and fruit plum sauce will get your palate asking for more. Not to mentioned those Norwegian Salmon Fish is extremely fresh!
ROASTED CORN FED CHICKEN SERVED WITH SPICY ONION SAUCE
Crisp chicken skin and moist tender meat on the inside. The fragrant scent wafting from this dish coupled with the spicy sauce will whet your appetite for more.
FRAGRANT GOLDEN ‘JIN SHA’ STYLE SPICY SLIPPER LOBSTER
One of my favourite dish for the night is this heavenly lobster in ‘Jin Sha’ style. The sauce was really flavourful and fragrant. It’s also topped with generous dried shrimps that elevated the taste of this dish. Every mouthful is filled with a juicy burst of flavors.
WOK-FRIED FRESH SCALLOP & SHRIMPS WITH MACADAMIA NUTS & SWEET BEAN
I’ve always loved sweet beans and this dish also comes on the top of my list. The beans are juicy to crunch on and adding sweet Macadamia Nuts is a stroke of genius. The fresh prawns and juicy scallops are really good as well.
BRAISED ABALONE SHELL MEAT WITH SCALLOP & BLACK MUSHROOM IN SUPREME OYSTER SAUCE
Another beautifully plated dish filled with yummy broccoli, braised abalone and juicy scallops. The mushroom has fully absorb the essence of the oyster sauce and when you bite into it the sauce fairly oozes out from it.
SEASONAL VEGETABLE WITH MOREL MUSHROOM TOPPED WITH DICED SEAFOOD
Celestial Court at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur sure knows how to court our tastebuds. We’ve got this impressive dish that’s filled with awesome goodness of seafood and fresh greens. Add in the morel mushroom that’s sweet and moist, got us hook for more.
PAN FRIEND TRADITIONAL CHINESE NEW YEAR CAKE
On a first glance, one might mistakenly think that this is fried luncheon meat. We’re in for a surprise as once you bite into it, the sweet flavour ‘Nian Gao’ was truly scrumptious. Beautifully deep fried till a golden brown by using egg as batter creates an additional dimension of taste to it.
As mentioned earlier, these are some of the delicious cuisines available from the 4 exclusive prosperity 9-course set menus. There are other variety of tantalising dishes as well such as Yee Sang with Crispy Soft-Shell Crab and Snow Pear served with spicy Mango Plum Sauce, Braised Sun-dried Oyster, Sea Cucumber & Black Moss on Garden Greens, Signature Roasted Crispy Duck with Five Spice Herbs & Rock Sea Salt, Double Boiled China Pear with Red Dates, Snow Fungus & Kumquat and others more. The price for the set menu starts from RM 1,788 nett onward respectively per table of 10 persons.
Another highlight in Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur is this gorgeous special home-made ‘Nian Gao’, shaped as Koi Fish that symbolizes good fortune, success, prosperity and longevity. Created by Dim Sum Chef, Ken Liew, this special home-made ‘Nian Gao’ is available in 2 different size package – Twin Koi Fish priced at RM 88 nett per pack or 1-large Single Koi Fish priced at RM 118 nett per box.
You can also opt to try their Chef’s favourite dishes via a la carte this Chinese New Year which are priced from RM48 nett onwards each. Celestial Court will be open during the Chinese New Year celebration from 17 Jan 2017 till 6 Feb 2017 for CNY lunch (12noon to 2.30pm), CNY Dinner (6.30pm to 10.30pm). On weekends during Chinese New Year weekends from 21 to 29 January 2017, the usual Dim Sum Brunch Buffet will not available but replaced with the CNY menu.
