In support of World AIDS Day 2015, Celebrity Fitness Malaysia with 200 participants raise awareness for AIDS through a three hour workout party titled Move for WAD. I was there to support this event to dance and kick away by joining the ever popular Zumba and two Les Mills programmes, SH’BAM and BODYCOMBAT at Nu Sentral Sky Park.
At the opening ceremony, Ryan Cheal, Vice President of Celebrity Fitness Malaysia presented a cheque of RM15,000 from to Fahrin Ahmad, Red Ribbon and Celebrity Supporter of Malaysian AIDS Foundation. The funds will be channelled towards the Malaysian AIDS Foundation’s efforts in HIV prevention, treatment and support programmes for Malaysia’s underprivileged communities. After the cheque ceremony, we kick start with Zumba and our instructor from Celebrity Fitness was Dino to follow by Sh’BAM. Upbeat funky music plays in the background while we let loose and shake our booty.
It’s shocking to learn that there are more than 6,200 new infections of HIV a year, adding to the total number of 100,000 Malaysians living with HIV. Despite this, HIV and AIDs remain a sensitive issue in Malaysia, and the social stigma surrounding the disease makes it difficult for patients to reach for the help they need. By working with Malaysian AIDS Foundation to organise Move for WAD, Celebrity Fitness hope to empower patients and encourage healthy conversation around HIV and AIDS among the public, ultimately creating a supportive community.
Some of the local celebrities came to support Move for WAD and I spotted Yasmin Hani and Azura kicking away happily in body combat.
World AIDS Day 2015 was themed “Getting to Zero”, which stands for having zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related deaths. Participants and celebrities such as at MOVE for WAD not only joined a worldwide movement to show solidity with those living with HIV and AIDS, but also gain a healthier lifestyle. The three different workout styles can help to burn calories, provide core training and improve coordination while bringing great fun.
Move for WAD was made possible with the support of NU Sentral, Bean & Beans, L’Oreal Malaysia and 7UP Revive. I certainly had fun during the event and sweat tons of buckets 😎 and look forward to supporting this cause again next year.
