A Healthy Gut Is Essential For Our Child Growth & Well-Being

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend an event held by Mamil at The Majestic Kuala Lumpur. The event hosted by celebrity mom Aishah Sinclair is known as Mamil® MomMe helps us to learn and understand better on how a healthy gut a.k.a. digestive system is essential for our child to grow and develop well.

Before the event began, there was a few pampering corners set up for us. We can opt to take pictures at the Mamil Corner’s Photobooth area, get our makeup touch up by Shu Uemura or seek advise for our skin at the Kiehl’s area. We also signed up on the spot for a 7-days trial pack with Mamil. Mamil® MomMe initiatives hopes to spread awareness of the importance of a good and healthy gut which is normally poorly understood by parents. We as parents never once thought that an unhealthy gut can contribute to a child’s emotionally well-being. Introducing the topic to us was Consultant Paediatrician Dr Chin Wai Seong who has 20 years of experience in this field.

Consultant Paediatrician Dr Chin Wai Seong speaking passionately on the subject of healthy gut.

“Nutritious food will not be able to benefit your child if the gut is unable to break down and absorb the nutrients. Children with poor gut health would experience symptoms like bloating, poor appetite, diarrhoea and constipation; this would affect their physical growth and energy levels, resulting in poor growth and making them feel tired and irritable,”  explained by Consultant Paediatrician Dr Chin Wai Seong.

During his presentation on ‘The Importance of Good Gut Health for Your Child’, Dr Chin highlighted that:

  • A healthy gut with good intestinal environment, helps promote softer stools for easier bowel movement.
  • The gut contains 70% of the body’s immune cells and work closely with our immune system to help protect against infections
  • A healthy gut and good intestinal environment supports optimal digestion and absorption of nutrients which is particularly important for a child’s growth and development.

In order to support a good healthy gut, we should always encourage our children to exercise regularly, increase their intake of fruits, vegetables and water. Also to be included is prebiotics in our child’s diet to stimulate the growth of good bacteria and decreases harmful bacteria in the intestine. Mamil®’s internationally patented prebiotics mixture of galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) and long-chain fructo-oligosaccharides (lcFOS) at a ratio of 9 to 1, is scientifically proven to increase beneficial bacteria, reduce growth of harmful bacteria, support gut protective barrier and promote softer stools for easier bowel movement.

It was a really fun event where mommies get to gathered around to support and encourage each other with ice breaking games. We also left inspirational messages at the message board to try our luck in winning ourself some great prizes sponsored by Mamil®, Shu Uemura and Kiehl’s. I left the event armed with better knowledge on guiding my child to have a healthier gut.
