This month has been such a blessing for me as I get to meet not one but two Hong Kong celebrities up close and personal. My most recent celebrity encounter was at an event hosted by Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).  HKTDC will be promoting their latest campaign In Style ● Hong Kong which highlight Hong Kong’s vibrant and unique lifestyle in Malaysia on 7th and 8th of November 2017.

In the upcoming months, you will see a series of promotion running through pop-up stores, on-ground and in-store activities happening in town. The promotion offers you an unforgettable experience of Hong Kong lifestyle elements which includes design-led products, trendy fashion and culinary experiences with special offers from selected restaurants.

We were lucky to be invited to witness the cooking demonstration at Canton-i, a well-known restaurant serving authentic dishes using the finest imported ingredients. Representing Canton-i,  Chef Yim Yu King will be helming the cooking demonstration together with Luk Ho Ming.  They will be preparing 3 unique Hong Kong dishes which will be made available from 1 October till 30 November 2017.

Double boiled honey fig soup with sea whelk and pork lean meat

Being Asian, we certainly loved drinking a hot bowl of broth. In Hong Kong, they’re famous for their double-boiled soups. Today, we get to enjoy a nourishing bowl of double-boiled soup which contains Fig, Sea Whelk, Scallop, Longan and tender pieces of Lean Pork. For additional flavours, salt and sugar are added in.

How to boil it? It’s easy, just placed all the ingredients in a ceramic jar, put in a steamer and goes through the double-boiling process to release the unique ingredient’s flavours. After more than 4 hours, all the nutrients will be in the soup.

I got to taste this clear and intensely flavoured sweet broth. Simply nourishing and delicious, the unique taste absolutely shines! Drink up folks for this soup is super beneficial for our body as it contains calcium-rich food.

Slowed cooked dragon garoupa fillet

A Cantonese delicacy dish, inspired from the Guangdong region in China. According to Chef Yim, dragon garoupa can be served in any method because of its non-fishy scent.

Chef Yim’s method of preparing the fish is to steam and add a layer of sweet flavour to it.  He elevated the flavours by adding in wolfberries to bring out the refreshing silky smooth and soft texture of the fish. With each bite, the tender meat just simply melts away!

Double Boiled Coconut with Natural Peach Resin Soup and Almond

This nourishing beauty soup is a must have in our books. Why? It contains the popular ingredient peach resin which is collagen rich and has the same nutrients as bird’s nest. (It’s also known as the poor man’s bird nest). Another winning factor is that the soup is put into coconut which hydrates our body.

All you need is just 3 ingredients such as egg white, almond and peach resin. One important technique is that when pouring the egg white into the almond water, stir it in slowly to avoid egg white from forming into together. Consistency is the key to ensuring the soup is a success.

I definitely enjoyed every bit of this milky smooth almond base soup. Every mouthful is filled with unique flavours of almond mix with a tinge of coconut sweetness. Love the chewy soft texture of the peach resin too.

Now, you too can savour these 3 promotional dishes. How? Just visit Canton-i from 1 October till 30 November 2017. It’s an opportunity not to be missed!
