Durian Craze @ Durian King TTDI Bukit Bintang

Durian King TTDI

This month marks the beginning of the durian season and every Malaysian I know is on the hunt to look for the best durian at a reasonable price. Introducing Durian King TTDI, which has just opened a new branch at Bukit Bintang and its right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur (behind Berjaya Times Square). To make it easier, it’s actually the same row as in the infamous soup Chinese soup stall, Keong Kee Herbal Soup.

Now, I was there to have a durian feast with fellow bloggers and to put it mildly did we go ‘gaga’ over the durian. The key highlight of our durian feast is the ‘Black Thorn’ and ‘Durian Cendol’. Of course, there are durian available such as Musang King, D24, Durian Kampung and lots more. If you prefer chilled or frozen durian, they’ve got it as well.

I was pretty stoked as I’ve heard that Black Thorn is really hard to find in Malaysia. Why? Originated from Penang, Black Thorn is the new hybrid durian that’s only available during certain season in the year.  Many stalls in KL does not carry this durian and with its huge popularity the price of a Black Thorn can soar as high as RM40 per kg.

Eric (the owner of Durian King TTDI) explained that ‘Black Thorn’ was named for it has a small tiny black thorn poking out at the bottom of the fruit. Apart from that, its shape is rounder and has a unique star sign at the bottom as well.

Before we began our durian feast, we tried the ‘Durian Cendol with Musang King’ which  is newly launched at Durian King TTDI.

After having a cooling icy ‘Durian Cendol’, it’s time to begin our durian feast. The first durian to try must be ‘Black Thorn’. The flesh is orange in colour and the taste is rich and creamy with a slight tinge of bitterness. Super soft texture and my palate keep asking for more. According to Eric, ‘Black Thorn’ will taste even better after a day, kinda like having XO.

Apart from ‘Black Thorn’, I also enjoyed their Musang King which looks to be a supreme Grade A. Look how yellow and thick the flesh is. I had tons of this together with D24 and Durian Kampung as well.

While enjoying our feast, we catch a lion dance performance to celebrate the opening of Durian King TTDI, Bukit Bintang branch.
