Ice Age is perhaps one of the most popular animation of all time spinning all the way to it’s latest release Ice Age: Collision Course. I still recall the funny antics of Scrat who is forever chasing after the elusive acorn. I also remembered how the Ice Age gang got together from the beginning to create a unique friendship that bonded them from their teens to adulthood.
Movie Synopsis:
Scrat’s epic pursuit of the elusive acorn catapults him into the universe where he accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the Ice Age World. To save themselves, Sid, Manny, Diego, and the rest of the herd must leave their home and embark on a quest full of comedy and adventure, travelling to exotic new lands and encountering a host of colorful new characters.
Featuring star studded cast members Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Simon Pegg, Keke Palmer, Wanda Sykes, and Jennifer Lopez. Joining the herd are Stephanie Beatriz, Adam DeVine, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Max Greenfield, Jessie J, Nick Offerman, Melissa Rauch, Michael Strahan and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

The movie opens with a vision of Scrat still chasing after his acorn who accidentally activate a space ship frozen on an icy mountain. Now, the next moment is hilarious as he makes a big ‘hoo-ha’ in space and with that set the course of asteroids flying towards earth. Scrat is a lovable character but in Ice Age: Collision Course there’s an overkill of his funny antics. Why? He seem to appear almost every 20 -30 minutes and still chasing the acorn in different space scenario. After awhile, the humour just wasn’t there anymore.
The Ice Age gang which consist of Manny and Diego are now all happily married except for Sid who still haven’t found his lifemate. Manny is now facing the most difficult time of his live, accepting his daughter has grown up, getting marry and living the nest soon. While Diego is planning to have kids with his spouse. There’s some character’s growth and kudos to the scriptwriters for doing a great job on this.
The best part of the movie is probably where the script writers focus on developing a more in-depth plot for Buck, the sword buckling weasel and the introduction of new character Brooke who speaks in a British accent (Sid’s future wife). Witty and humorous , I absolutely adored both of them.
It opened with a strong start but somewhere towards the middle, there are some draggy scenes and too many random appearances of Scrat. I would have to say I only perk up almost at the ending when they meet Brooke and her team at the site crash. There were tons of funny moment there.
I still enjoyed the movie but think perhaps I’ve gotten too old to fully appreciate it. For the kids, this would still be an animation movie that they will enjoy and if you’re a fan of Ice Age, why not catch this in cinemas today!
