Counting down, there’s only 3 more weeks to Chinese New Year! Are you ready for the annual family gathering and toss to a year of Prosperity? This year we welcome the year of the metal rat, an auspicious year of new beginnings and endless opportunities. According to Chinese New Year tradition, family reunions will be held and auspicious food is served to welcome the year afresh.
I recently attended Chynna, Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s Chinese New Year menu review prepared by Master Chef Lam Hock Hin and his team. There are five set menus available this year – Abundance, Prosperity, Wealth, Grand Fortune and Auspicious starting from RM2088nett per table of 10. The CNY menu is available from now till 8th February 2020!. Let’s kick start with a toss to good fortune with Chynna’s signature Yee sang for 2020!
Smoky Chicken with Rice Krispies Yee Sang
First time trying Yee Sang with smoky chicken. The taste is amazing with a mixture of sweetness, savory and has a great crunchy texture to it! You can also opt for the Strawberry and Macadamia Nuts Yee Sang, Crispy Fish Skin and Salted Egg Yolk Soft Shell Crab Yee Sang, Norwegian Salmon Yee Sang with Passion fruit Sauce and Traditional Norwegian Salmon Yee Sang. Price starts from RM128 for half portion and RM238 for full portion.
Other dishes we tried for the review consists of signature dishes from The Abundance set & The Prosperity set. The Abundance set menu is priced at RM2088nett per table of 10 and features the below crowd pleasers food such as Steamed Moontail Grouper with Chili Bean Sauce, Stewed Sea Cucumbers with Dry Oysters, Gluten Roll and Fatt Choy in clay pot, Braised Shrimp Rolls with Portobello Mushroom and Garden Greens and Apricot Roselle Jelly with Deep Fried Coconut Nian Gao stuffed with Yam Paste.
Steamed Moontail Grouper with Green Lime & Garlic Chili Sauce
A delightful dish of tender meat covered in simmering green lime sauce and garlic chili sauce. The taste is well balanced with a hint of spiciness to elevate your taste bud.
Braised Tomato Puree Soup With Seafood, Vegetarian Fins and Crushed Almond
Warm your stomach with this delicious broth made from the sweetness of tomato and fresh seafood. Add in a touch of almond for that extra crunch factor.
The Prosperity set menu is priced at RM2688nett per table of 10 and features chef signature dishes including the decadent Eight Treasure Salt Baked Chicken, Sliced Abalone with Sea Cucumbers, Stir Fried Prawns with Kam Heong Pepper Sauce and double boiled almond cream with gum Tragacanth and premium Musang King Dessert.
Eight Treasure Salt Baked Chicken
One of the best dish of the night, salt baked chicken to perfection and topped up with ginger scallion dipping sauce. Absolutely perfect!
Sliced Abalone with Sea Cucumbers
This treasure dish features sliced abalone with sea cucumbers, dried oysters, sea moss and Chinese cabbage.
Stir Fried Prawns with Kam Heong Pepper Sauce
Prawn lovers will crave for this dish as it’s well season. The peppery sauce enhance the overall taste!
Double boiled almond cream with gum Tragacanth and premium Musang King Dessert
One of the best way to end the night is definitely desserts. Soothe the throat with warm almond cream and gum Tragacanth. The Tragacanth has a gel like jelly texture and tasted pretty good.
Of course the highlight would be the Musang King dessert. Look at the generous filling oozing out from it! Simply divine.
Fragrant Fried Rice with preserved duck meat wrapped in lotus leaf
Even though, I’m not a huge fan of this dish, I couldn’t help myself from digging into it. Another great dish by Chef Lam!
Overall, we truly enjoyed the Chinese New Year dishes at Chynna, Hilton Kuala Lumpur. Got to give Chef Lam two thumbs up for his creative dishes that’s really flavoursome and delicious. So book your tables to avoid any disappointment!
