(Review) My Experience with YoungBlood® Mineral Cosmetics

When it comes to cosmetics, no female can resist it and I’m one of the enthusiast as well. There’s just something about cosmetics especially the fabulous colors that absolutely drive me crazy about it. Guess what? I found out that the acclaim Youngblood® Mineral Cosmetics from USA is now available in Malaysia. Distributed exclusively by EIG, I was stoked to be invited to experience the product for myself.

Youngblood® Mineral Cosmetics has been making waves in USA since its debut for the product is well known for its natural, finely ground minerals from the earth, without common irritants (including chemicals, dyes and preservatives) found in conventional makeup. The product was founded by a paramedical aesthetician, Pauline Youngblood in 1996. Developed specifically for her patients who’re recovering from harsh medical procedures, it became so popular that later on it was made commercially available.

By now, you’re probably wondering what’s the big ‘hoo-ha’ about this product, read more to find out:

Knowing all this, I was still sceptical of the product as mineral cosmetics are not well-known for coverage and neither for long lastingness.

Now, let’s take an in-depth look at the range of products that I’ve used and what’s my personal thoughts on each product. My makeup theme is classic look (caused I’ve got an interview later on and can’t go too wild  😛 )

Step 1:  Spray Minerals in the Mist™ (Refreshed) to give my skin a moisture boost. Infused with pure essential oils and vitamins to protect and hydrate skin. I loved the fruity tangerine and grape fruit scent.

Step 2: Apply Mineral Primer which is a translucent base. I like the lightweight and silky texture and upon application helps smoothen out my pores area and fine lines too. It also contains skincare properties such as vitamins and mineral to protect our skin against environmental damage. Definitely, worth purchasing as other cosmetics base are either too heavy or sticky. (This primer was awarded Harper’s Bazaar Beauty Awards 2015 (Malaysia) for Best Make-Up Base)

Step 3:  To wake up my tired looking eyes, my MUA Vinz Chong applied Eye Impact Quick Recovery Eye Cream. It contains powerful ingredients such as antioxidants, peptides and caffeine.  Hydrating, fragrance free and non-oily, my eyes was looking more refreshed with an illuminating glow after application (white transparent liquid) . Plus, I can feel a slight soothing sensation on my eyes. Using this, I can even skip the concealer step. (Tip: Vinz recommends this as lip balm as well for its hydrating properties can help smoothen fine lines on my lips)

Step 4:  As I’ve got oily skin (especially around the T-Zone area), it’s recommended to set with Loose Mineral Rice Setting Powder (light) as defense against shine. It’s made from a special blend of rice starch, cornstarch and skin-nourishing minerals. Loving the flawless, matte finishing and best of all it’s 100% talc-free.

Step 5: I highlighted earlier to Vinz (MUA) that I’m very insecure about my freckles. He taught me a new trick, apply Luminous Crème Blush (Pink Cashmere) before my foundation. The oil-free formula combines a shimmering glow with sheer, long-wearing colour.

Step 6:  Next, was to apply Loose Mineral Foundation (Barely Beige) to create a naturally flawless look. The lightweight formula provides buildable coverage and a soft radiance with its ultra-fine, luxurious powder. Seeing is believing with just two round of light powder dusting on my face, all my skin’s imperfection is fully covered. As I’ve applied the blusher beforehand, my face radianted a natural glow.

Step 7: MUA used the Hi-Definition Hydrating Mineral Perfecting Powder for a sheer finishing. Its ultra-fine, super-soft texture leaves a cooling sensation on my face.  I looked picture perfect after applying it.

Time for the eyes and below are the products used to create the ‘smokey effect’:

Step 8: Applied Pressed Individual Eyeshadow in Gilded shade which is made from 100% minerals with a creamy texture. Easily blends onto my eyes by using either our forefingers or brush.

Step 9: Next, apply the Incredible Wear Gel Liner (Black Orchid). It’s water-resistant and gives off an intense purple black color. It’s glides smoothly as well.  (Tip: It can also be used as an eyeshadow as well, just smudge it gently with a brush and voila ‘non-smudge smokey eyes’ are created)

Step 10:  Dusted and highlighted my forehead and nose bridge with Lunar Dust (Twilight) that gives off a light shimmering effect.

Step 11: Use the Eye Iluminating Duo Pencil to brighten and accentuate my eyes. One end is matte and the other in shimmer creamy formula. Can also be used to highlight the brow bones as well.

Step 12:  Brows are extremely important for it’s the window to our eyes and we used the Brow Artiste Kit (Dark) to achieve the perfect arched. Apply the tinted wax before applying the pressed brow powder (available in two shades). The tinted wax will assist to seal the pressed brow powder for long- lastingness effect.

Step 13. To contour my face, apply the mineral bronzer Mineral Radiance (Sundance) below the cheeks to highlight my cheekbones and sharpen my face. The shades are very natural and blends easily as well.

Step 14: Finally, finished with Lipstick (Envy) that’s in lustrous plum red color. The lanolin-free formula contains a special blend of natural oils and vitamins that’ll keep my lips fresh looking for hours. I love the highly pigmented colors of the lipstick with a tinge of glossiness to it.

What’s the verdict? I had this makeup on from morning 11.30am till night 11pm. There’s some shine on my T-Zone area, however if compared to my normal makeup routine it has reduced significantly. Great coverage and many of my friends complimented my flawless complexion on that day. Love the gel liner for it doesn’t smudge at all (I’ve tried other gel liners before and after 4 hours there’s smudges). However, I did need to touch up my make up with mist spray and loose powder due to excessive sweating under the heat.
