Tantalizing Southern Thai Dishes at Thai Syok

Bored of the same old Chinese New Year dishes, why not try Southern Thai Cuisine for a change. Introducing Thai Syok which has recently opened a new branch located at Sunway Mentari. Featured before in ‘Ho Chak’ on 8TV, Thai Syok is well known for its authentic Southern Thai cuisines and charcoal BBQ Yakitori.

We kick start by ordering some drinks to whet our appetite. The bestsellers here are Thai milk tea, Green tea milk Malacca sugar and Honey lemon tea.

After drinks, let’s start preparing our early ‘Lou Sang’ the Thai way *woots*

Salmon Yee Sang - Thai Syok
Thai Syok’s Salmon Yee Sang RM38 (Half Portion) & RM58 (Full- Portion)

This yee sang is part of their Chinese New Year special menu and is available from now till 21 February, 2016. Adored the Salmon’s presentation and the unique Thai Syok sauces used in the yee sang.

Chicken Feet Salad- TS
Thai Style Boneless Chicken Feet

A great appetizer featuring crunchy cold chicken feet in sauces that’s mixed with a tinge of sweetness, spiciness and sourish flavours.

Marinated Pork Belly (3 skewers) RM12
Marinated Pork Belly (3 skewers) RM12

Top favourite of the night, grilled to perfection well marinated pork belly that glistens with honey.

Marinated Chicken Wing (3 skewers) – RM15
Marinated Chicken Wing (3 skewers) – RM15

Order this if you’re not a pork person for it taste equally good as well.

For port knuckle, there are two variations available at Thai Syok either Deep Fried or Braised Tom Yam. Braised Tom Yam Pork Knuckle just simply melts in your mouth and the spices created awesome flavours that lights up my palate. It can be taken either on its own or with a wrapped salad. However, my vote goes to Deep Fried Port Knuckle for its crispy skin and tender meat. Dip it with the special Thai Syok’s chili sauce, simply heavenly. ‘Definitely, must try’!

Next, we tried two different type of fish and both prices are seasonal for it depends on current market rate. Lemon Steamed Siakap in tangy, sourish broth with a tinge of spiciness is really appetizing. Best served together with a bowl of hot steamy white rice. As for the Deep Fried Garoupa Fish in 3 Tastes of Spicy, Sour and Sweet features fish fillets in coconut curry is a tad too rich as I prefer a milder coconut taste.

Well marinated juicy chicken meat wrapped in pandan leaves, is definitely recommended.

Prawn Cooked in Coconut Milk (Seasonal Price)

Prawns submerged in coconut milk which is another great dish that goes very well with steamy hot rice.

Thai Yakitori Combo - TS
Yakitori Combo RM24 (Only available for dinner)

This combo platters featured pandan chicken, chicken wing, pork neck, honey basil pork grill with lemongrass, Tom Yum King prawn and pork belly skewers.

Tom Yam Kung (Seasonal price)
Tom Yam Kung (Seasonal price)

With the right level of spiciness, this soup comes highly recommended. We were also informed that the huge prawns served this evening is priced at RM10 each and is freshly caught from Tanjung Karang.

Stir-fried Prawn and Fish Fillet in Herbs
Stir-fried Prawn and Fish Fillet in Herbs

Succulent prawn with fish fillets that’s submerged in aromatic herbs and spices comes highly recommended.

Green Curry with Noodles and condiments - Thai Syok
Green Curry served with Thai Noodles

First time pairing green curry with glistening sweet Thai Noodles and the flavours really fuses well together.

Inspired by Washington Apple, Thai Syok introduces two new delightful dishes for the evening.

Thai Crispy Duck with Homemade Apple Sauce
Thai Crispy Duck with Homemade Apple Sauce

Crispy duck with juicy meat, dip it into the homemade apple sauce for it alleviates the taste and brings out amazing flavours that will get your palate seeking for more.

Apple Song Tam with Crisp Barramundi Fillet
Apple Song Tam with Crisp Barramundi Fillet

Such a creative and interesting entrée to combine fish fillet with refreshing green apple that’s crunchy with a touch of sweetness and sourish mix which tasted really delicious.

Finished the meal, with mouth-watering desserts from Thai Syok. Featuring the two best seller in the house, opt for either the Golden Banana with Coconut Syrup that features slightly ripe banana with sweet syrup. Every bite is certainly tantalizing. Otherwise try the Red Rubies with Jackfruit in Coconut Syrup which is definitely a favourite of mine with overloaded red chestnut.

I highly recommend for you to give it a try at Thai Syok for the food is superb. For a healthier option, you can also adjust their dishes accordingly for example less salt, less sugar, less oil and lots more. This Chinese New Year, try their Festive 8 Course Dinner that’s suitable for 8-10 pax at RM638 only.
