Understanding the impact of social media, this year 1 Utama chose to celebrate Halloween by tapping into this platform. Held for three days from 30th October – 1st November 2015 at Ground Floor Promenade in front of TGIF, it was filled with fun activities for families, adults and kids alike.
I was there with my son and nieces to participate in the workshops held for kids. I enroll my son in the DIY Halloween Keychains Workshop taught by Craft Heaven. At the workshop, he can learn to make cute pumpkin and macaron monsters using air dry clay and finish it as keychain. There was also a Decorate Spooky Cupcakes Workshop but it was fully occupied. However, upon arriving at the event area he was too freaked out to join as he saw creepy monsters and ghouls walking around the area.
My nieces was too busy snapping pictures of the amazing recreation 3D haunted living room complete with life sized skeletons, cobwebby bookcases, fireplace and errie decorations. There’s also costumes and Halloween items available for us to use as props. On top of that, one can always get their face painted with special effects face paint at Balloon Wonderland booths.
While they were busy queuing for photographs, I was busy checking out three social media station set up for gift redemption. At the Instagram Station, take a selfie/wefie at the haunted living room hashtag #1utama to receive a complimentary 4R photo and TGV Cinemas movie pass. Stalked them at the Facebook station and you’ll earn sinfully delicious treats like popcorn and cotton candy. The final Twitter and YouTube Station, follow 1 Utama and you get an opportunity to Spin the Wheel Of Horror and walked away with witch hats, ghoulish masks, pumpkin baskets and lots more.
Although my son was initially scared but at the end of the event he seems to be enjoying himself. Next year, I hope 1 Utama will organize a bigger creepier Halloween event and I’ll definitely bring both of my little monsters to attend together.
