Since my elder prince got a birthday staycation, my younger boy couldn’t miss out too — so another surprise was in order! This time, we went for a 2D1N birthday getaway at DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
This hotel makes a wonderful city escape with its strategic location near KLCC. It features an outdoor pool, fitness centre and is connected to The Intermark Mall, where you can shop or enjoy a quiet moment at Tatsuya Bookstore. We arrived early for check-in and as we walked past the main lobby (located at Level 11), we spotted the Axis Lounge & The Food Store, cosy spots perfect for coffee, tea or light bites.
So why didn’t we check in at the main lobby? Because I booked the King Terrace Suite with KLCC view, which comes with exclusive check-in at the Executive Lounge. We were warmly welcomed by the lovely team — and yes, we got their famous warm chocolate chip cookies upon arrival!
Our suite was incredibly spacious, featuring a king-sized bed, sofa, work desk, mini bar, TV, bathtub and luxury Crabtree & Evelyn bath amenities. We requested two extra beds for the boys and the room still felt comfortable. A sweet highlight — the mini bar items were complimentary! Water, canned drinks and snacks were all provided.
The biggest surprise – the room was beautifully decorated by the hotel team for my son’s birthday and they prepared a delicious pandan cake for him- Such thoughtful service! And of course, the best part was our private terrace with a stunning KLCC view — you can even spot Merdeka 118. The night view? Absolutely breath taking!
After a short rest, we headed to the Executive Lounge for evening cocktails. There were pastries, fresh fruits and light bites. Adults enjoyed free-flow cocktails, wine and beer, while the kids enjoyed sparkling drinks and fruit juices.
We continued the night with the Weekend Dinner Buffet: Where Legend Cooks at Makan Kitchen. We indulged in International and local spreads such as Roasted Australian Lamb Leg and Seafood on Ice to Satay and Briyani Rice. The kids had so much fun at the Kids’ Corner, complete with a racing simulator, arcade games and Nintendo Switch!
After a good night’s sleep, we enjoyed breakfast at Makan Kitchen. Guests staying in Executive rooms also have the option to dine at the Executive Lounge. Breakfast buffet choices were fantastic — roti canai, nasi lemak, dim sum, eggs benedict, fresh pastries and more. I especially loved the coffee selection — they even have cold brew and white coffee.
Post-breakfast, the boys enjoyed a refreshing swim at the outdoor pool, which also has a separate pool for younger kids. I managed to squeeze in a quick run at the fitness centre — it’s well-equipped and stocked with fresh fruits and towels.
Before heading home, we treated ourselves to lunch at Tosca. While the boys ordered from the à la carte menu, we tried the Set Lunch which includes a starter, main, dessert and a drink — all for just RM42 nett. Truly great value, and the food was delicious! You can even enjoy your meal with a cocktail or coffee overlooking the gorgeous pool view.
