Heard there’s a newly opened dining restaurant The Strait Estate located at V E Hotel & Residence in Bangsar South. I got the chance to check out the place when I was invited to attend the preview of their Pasar Malam themed Buka Puasa buffet spread. At The Strait Estate it’s all about street food which I’ve always enjoyed.
To kick start my meal, I went for the vast array of delightful ulams, kerabus, sambals and salads. The assortment include Kerabu Soo Hoon with Seafood, Kerabu Pucuk Paku Dengan Udang , Kerabu Nangka bersama Pucuk Ubi Ulam, Ulam Kampung and lots more.
The highlight of the feast is definitely the special feature stall where you get to sample 13 “laksa” varieties – from the signature Penang Style Assam Laksa to regional favourites from Johor, Terengganu and up North. Also remember to check out the 13 State Curry Stall offering speciality curries from every Malaysian states. My favourite is Curry Laksa and Mee Sarawak which comes highly recommended by the chef.
The live action section offers satay grilled over charcoal, roti canai and murtabak fresh of the griddle, ikan bakar and much more.
A not to be missed is also the Arabian Stall with its Spit Roasted Lamb marinated and grilled to perfection, a popular Arab streets staple or try the Chicken and Lamb Shawarma served together with biryani rice.’
Main sample dishes for the night are Daging Masak Berkuah Curry Hijau, Daging Masak Merah, Udang Harimau Goreng Mentega (Butter Prawn), Ayam Goreng Berempah with Chili Kering, Sambal Petai Goreng Ikan Bilis, Pucuk Manis lemak with Ubi Manis, Pajeri Nenas with Kiwi Kering. You can try these delightful dishes together with aromatic Nasi Beriyani Kurma.
As usual, my meal ended with desserts paired with a hot milky cup of Teh Tarik. I was totally spoilt for choice with the selection of from the delectable local kuih, assorted french pastries, pistachio baklava to ice kacang, cendol or indulge in sinfully rich Tapai Pulut, Tapai Ubi or Pengat Durian to name a few.
