Mother’s day is coming and as usual I’ve plans to bring my mom for a gourmet journey filled with endless delights. In conjunctions with Mother’s Day, Chef Lee Siew Hap and his team at Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant has crafted three absolutely delectable eight – course set meals. So, I headed there with my mom to have a fun food review together.
For today food review, we will be enjoying a combination of dishes from the three set menus available.
Kick start our meal with Braised Fish Maw Soup “Fook Chow” Style with Abalone a hearty tasty broth to warm up our stomach. Filled with fresh seafood ingredients and tender braised fish maw with chewy abalone is simply divine. You can opt to add a drop of vinegar to alleviate the taste.
Next dish was Sautéed Prawn with Green Soy Bean in Garlic Sauce. The prawns was plump and juicy. Loved the green soy beans for the extra crunchy zest.
Followed by fresh Steamed Tiger Garoupa with Bean Curd and Soy Sauce. This is the first time I tried steamed fish with bean curd and it was so good. The bean curd was soft and smooth making it easy to swallow without much chewing. As for the fish it was perfectly steamed with the right amount of soy sauce base.
Everybody loves having their greens and we tried the Braised Mushroom and Assorted Vegetables with conpoy sauce. Fresh greens that’s perfectly steamed with flavourful mushroom and tossed with conpoy sauce was definitely great.
My favourite dish for the night is Egg Noodles with Sautéed Crab Meat, Egg and Bean Sprouts. Noodles are al-dente with a springy and chewy texture was scrumptious. Tossed with a generous topping of crab meat and egg floss will certainly get you asking for more. Another plus factor is the dish is not oily.
We ended our meal with desserts and had Chilled Mango Puree with Pamelo and Sago with Vanilla Ice Cream & Mini Crystal Longevity Bun. Look at the beautiful plating! Loved the sweetness of the mango puree with Vanilla Ice Cream, however the pamelo was a tad too bitter that night. The longevity bun was tantalizing with a soft chewy texture ‘just like mochi’ filled with pandan cream.
It was definitely a memorable night as me and my mom enjoyed the culinary dishes served at Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant.
