New hot spot in Petaling Jaya - The Merchant

The Merchant at The Armada Hotel Petaling Jaya (used to known as Merchant Pub) revealed its new decor during the grand launch last week. The event was throng by guests and media who enjoyed the free-flowing canapes, cocktails, wine, whisky and beer throughout the evening.

Guests were welcomed by General Manager of The Armada Hotel, Mr Hoon Tai Chee and his team at the entrance. A photobooth was also available for guests to bring home pictures as memorabilia for the evening.

As we enjoyed listening to the band and indulge ourselves with The Merchant’s culinary specialities of smoked duck with orange, grilled beef with asparagus, pandan chicken served in shot glasses, otak-otak on toast, assorted sushi balls, mini lemon and raspberry tarts as well as the star of the evening, chocolate cigar rolls served in whisky glasses that even came complete with crushed oreos disguised as cigar ashes.

I noticed The Merchant, created different spaces to catered to their guests’ preference. Media were allocated at ‘The Balcony’ and outdoor area overlooking the busy Federal Highway and PJ skyline. Another feature of the bar is the illuminated Onyx Table and barstools to cater to large groups. For those who preferred a more sophisticated area, Cigar Lounge is the perfect choice. There’s also a dedicated games area, guests may enjoy a game of pool and the Electronic Darts Machines.

As the night grew, guests were encouraged to experience The Merchant Live, which is an extension of The Merchant that can be accessed directly from within. Performing that night was Hydra and they had the guests dancing and singing along with them. Another exciting feature of The Merchant Live are the three comfy private suites in themed of red, gold and silver respectively (cater up to 30 pax). The rooms are equipped with karaoke entertainment and Phoenix Darts Machines for guests to enjoyed themselves. As part of the media team, we were ushered into the biggest suite which features an American Pool table as well. We had a great time singing our hearts out and playing the games provided.

By the way, you can also enter The Merchant Live via their tunnel entry which illuminates in rainbow glows that demands and seek the photo opportunist in you to snap a colourful picture for remembrance. The Merchant is a good place to hold pre-dinner events and parties with its luxe and sophisticated atmosphere.
