TP-Link was founded in 1996 and has become the undisputed global leader in wireless-network solutions, operating in more than 170 territories worldwide. Today, I’m reviewing their latest smartphones the Neffos C9A.

Design Look

There are two colors available for Neffos C9A. Mine was Cloudy Grey and it sports a combination color of black and grey making it looks sleek and classy.

slim packaging

Got to say, the size is pretty compact and fits nicely into my pouch. It’s also easy to grip with buttons easily accessible at the side of the phone.

Immersive full-screen experiences

Neffos C9A

The C9A sports a 5.45-inch screens, offering Full-View Displays that go beyond ultra-thin bezels, featuring an impressive 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ resolutions. To better protect your screen from cracking, use the FREE screen protector provided in the set.

I tested watching video or playing games outdoors and indoors, the display is pretty bright thanks to the contrast ratio of 1,000:1 and 400 nits of brightness.  I find the screen resolution acceptable, however the sound system is quite lacking.

Picture Quality

Neffos C9A

Boasting an advanced front and rear cameras, C9A has been outfitted with a 5-megapixel Softlight Camera for better pictures at night or in a dimly lit environment. The lenses behind the cameras offer an 84-degree wider field of view to capture the world as you see it.

If you’re using this to take selfies, the pictures come out pretty great as it has a 10-level Real-Time Beautify function to conceal imperfections while highlighting all your natural features. The pictures captured are more sharp and detailed because it has a 13-megapixel rear camera’s lower-aperture lens and phase-detection auto-focus system. Best part, the camera has a blue-glass filter that cuts off infrared light for a more accurate color reproduction.

As I mentioned earlier, selfies do come out great and pictures taken in the daylights are good too. For night and dimly lit environment, the pictures aren’t great. Anyway, even the most expensive smartphones don’t really work well in night or dimly lit areas.

Security

Using facial recognition mode

There’s one thing I noticed whilst using C9A, is how good the ‘security’ was. It incorporates water- and oil-resistant fingerprint readers as well as face unlock system. Powered by AI technology, the cameras can scan over 100 different facial details for accuracy and effortlessly unlock the devices. I used facial recognition as password and was pretty surprised at its level of accuracy to unlock the phone. It’s really convenient especially when I’m pressed for time and need to access my phone immediately!

The phone is pre-installed with up-to-date and well-optimized Android 8.1 Oreo, which introduces several fresh features, including the latest security patches to keep the devices secure.

Long Lasting Batteries

Neffos C9A
Dual-sim function capability.

It charges pretty fast and takes approximately 1 hour and the phone is ready to go. The batteries are pretty long lasting, a fully charged phone can last for more than a day. Of course, it also depends on your consumption pattern. I rarely watch videos on the phone hence it’s able to last longer *wink*

Verdict

Neffos C9A

As an entry level phone, Neffos C9A is truly affordable as it’s retailing at only RM429 and the quality is pretty decent too. I like the ‘facial recognition’ system which was accurate compared to other smartphones in the market.  There are definitely rooms for improvement in terms of sound system and night shot mode for the camera. Overall, it’s a pretty good buy for that price.
