During the launch, General Manager of Marketing for Sakae Sushi Malaysia, Ms.Yew June shared “Our new menu is certain to satisfy all palates and cravings as each mouth-watering selection is thoughtfully and skilfully prepared by our master chefs to delight and entice your taste buds.”

I was happy to be invited and excited to try out the new dishes as I’m a fan of sushi. Together with selected media and bloggers, we were treated to a sumptuous meal. Let’s have a peek at some of the new items from the menu, so you’ll know what to order on your next visit to Sakae Sushi.

Sakae Salad 荣沙拉 – RM13.99

Sakae salad a special creation is a refreshing and enticing combination of fresh air-flown salmon, seasoned jellyfish, crabstick, Japanese omelette and assorted vegetables served in a choice of either wafu or goma dressings. Loved this for its freshness and the wafu dressing was to die for.

Next, we were served assorted Sashimi Mori Zen with an assortment of mouth-watering fresh air-flown Norwegian salmon, yellowtail, tuna, butterfish and octopus. We also tried the Fuku Set which is a platter of sushi combination of all time favourites such as sushi-salmon sushi, cheesy tamago sushi, kani fumi sushi, soft shell crab maki, futo maki, kani edame. The sashimi were fresh and with just a drop of lemon the flavours literally light up my palate. As for sushi combo, one can hardly find any fault as it’s a variety of our favourite sushi. By the way, did you know that Sakae is the first and only “kaiten sushi” restaurant that adds Vitamin E into its sushi rice giving us essential vitamin for great skin and immune system. This is such great news for Sushi lovers like me.

After polishing the food, we were then introduced to the some of the new enticing rolls. Salmon Cheese Roll – delectable rolls with salmon, crabstick, Japanese omelette & Japanese cucumber topped off with cheese and spicy mayo. Sumo Roll features mouth-watering sushi rolls layered with sea eel and mango, as well as a luscious topping of avocado and salmon roe. Spider Roll is cucumber-wrapped crispy soft shell crab and flying fish roe drizzled with mayonnaise.  Also introducing one of the latest addition from smoked duck series, Smoked Kamo Maki an irresistible fried sushi roll with Japanese cucumber and seaweed topped with succulent smoked duck. My favourite has to be the Sumo Roll for its sweetness (combination of mango & eel) and avocado bits, another worth mentioning is Smoked Kamo Maki the thinly duck sliced wrapped around the sushi is simply irresistible!

Apart from the new menu, a new sauce was introduced to us “Nanban Sauce“. The sauce which is sweet and sour in nature makes a flavoursome addition and was used in a series of new dishes under the Agemono and Yakimono category- Tori Karaage Nanban, Itoyoridai Katsu Nanban, Salmon Kama-age Nanban and Hotate Nanban Yaki . We had the pleasure  to try Itoyoridai Katsu Nanban a breaded threadfin bream deep fried to a golden brown crisp complement by Nanban Sauce. Hotate Mentaiyaki succulent half shell scallops grilled with cod fish roe and Hotate Nanban Yaki which is also half shell scallops grilled with Nanban sauce. This a definite “MUST TRY“, the “Nanban Sauce” accentuate the flavours of this selected dishes to perfection and its really delicious!

You can opt to select from a total of seven choices of Mini Donburi including Unatama, Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Kinoko, Curry Katsu, Salmon Ikura, Chrirashi and Kani Fumi. We tried the Unatama Mini Donburi which is made with premium river eel topped with Japanese omelette served on a bed of soft, warm rice. In between our meal, we were also treated with awesome performances by Sakae’s mascot “Froggie” and beat boxing by Joukee. Check out the video to see how well a froggie can move his booty 😀

Apart from introducing new food, drinks & desserts are not neglected as well. New mocktail, floats and coffee available are Genmaicha Latte, Matcha Coffee and Babycino series – Mr. Babycino (Citrus) & Ms. Babycino (Strawberry). We were be able to try the Genmaicha Latte –smooth and frothy blended green tea with fragrant roasted brown rice mixed with milk and drizzle of honey. I loved this drink for its not too sweet and green tea flavour wasn’t too overpowering.  As for Mr. Babycino (Citrus) – a drink featuring the cute “Froggie” with concoctions of citrus flavoured frothed milk topped with marshmallow. Its’s awfully cute and there’s a tangy sweetness in the drink which I believe will be a winner with the kids.

Sakae’s dessert also boast new additions with its latest desserts such as Sakae Sundae, Karinto Manjyu & Ice Cream, Warabi Mochi and more. By this time, we were quite full however one just can’t say no to dessert. We were recommended to try Karinto Mankyu & Ice Ceam an irresistible combination of sweet golden sugar bun filled with red bean and paired with a scoop of match ice-cream.  The taste was awesome. Lastly, we tried Warabi Mochi – a unique translucent dessert that’s soft and chewy.
