Suria KLCC Celebrates Lunar New Year With ‘Peranakan Home Coming Reunion’ Festive Theme

Every shopping mall has put great effort to create a Chinese New Year festive decor that will be memorable. In the essence of Chinese New Year, families congregate for a reunion dinner and eat dishes with auspicious names, hence Suria KLCC’s decoration for this year is aptly themed ‘A Peranakan Homecoming Reunion’. Set at the concourse of Suria KLCC, one definitely can’t missed the replica of the dining hall of an opulent double story ‘Peranakan’ manor.

The ‘Peranakan’ showcase offers shoppers and visitors, a glimpse of the rich ‘Peranakan’ community with its opulent lifestyle and their mixed customs and traditions during Chinese New year.

We were treated to a variety of ‘Peranakan’ performances such as dancing, singing and musical instruments. What stands out most, is the Baba & Nyonya Wedding where rituals are extremely different from our culture.

In an effort to celebrate the uniqueness of Malaysia and to bring Malaysians together during this festive season, Suria KLCC has once again constructed the tallest Chinese lantern made from small Chinese lanterns and cherry blossom ornaments at KLCC Esplanade. This majestic structure stands at 72 feet high and 40 feet wide.  Definitely, instagram-worthy, you should take the opportunity to take a picture here as the structure is only available till 5th February 2017.

Chinese New Year is also a time of giving and Suria KLCC has not forgotten the underprivileged community. Together Suria KLCC and Alamanda shopping centre has pledge to support spreading lunar happiness to ‘Shelter Home for Children’ through ‘Share the Care’ fundraising efforts. Shopper s and visitors who donate RM10 for the cause will receive a ‘kuih kapit’ shaped card as a gesture of appreciation. Donors can penned their name on the card and it will be hung on a cherry blossom tree placed at designated area in both malls. Shelter Home for Children is a registered welfare organization established in 1981 to help abandoned, neglected or at risk children.
