I still remember the first time seeing Kate Beckinsale as a vampiress hunting down lycans in the very first Underworld instalment and it got me hook to this movie. Watching the fifth and latest installment of Underworld: Blood Wars, I find the plot lacking but got to say the fight scenes might be the highlight of the entire movie.

Movie Synopsis:
UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.
My Thoughts:
The movie opened with Selene (Kate Beckinsale) battling with Lycans and with the help of her ally David (Theo James) managed to escaped from their clutches. You can feel the emotionally despaired Selene struggles to come to terms that she might never see her daughter, Eve or her ex-lover, Michael again. In fact, she hints that she’s prepared to die after walking the Earth for 1,000 years. Quite touching!

However, she must still fight to survive against the stronger, unified Lycans led by Marius (Tobias Menzies). Marius is looking desperately for Eve as he believes her blood (pure hybrid of vampire-lycan) is the key to making the Lycans stronger. As for the vampires, they’ve sentenced Selene to death. Thus, Selene is now hunted by both the Lycans and Vampires for very different reasons.

We’re also introduced to new characters in the vampire coven, where the ambitious Semira (Lara Pulver) is trying to gain power with help from her manipulative lover, Varga (Bradley James). They plotted against Selene and once again she’s betrayed by her own vampire faction.

With the help of David, Selene managed to escape and head for the North. High up in the mountains, there’s a peaceful vampire coven. In here, both of them will find clues to their future. This Nordic Coven does reminds me of ‘Game Of Thrones’ with their mannerism.

After a score of battles, we will see some closure for certain characters and some new beginnings for others. I’m sure there will be a next instalment. Here’s my Top 3 Reasons To Watch Underworld: Blood Wars!
- Kate Beckinsale back in action with new hottie ally Theo James.
- Endless fight scenes between Selene, Lycans and Vampires.
- Watch if you’re a fan of Underworld.
